Les Coups de Cœur pour le Prix ANI/PIXTRAKK 2020 par Stefana Fraboulet & Laetitia Guillemin 2/2

Pour leur quatrième et dernière carte blanche, nos deux invitées de la semaine, Stefana Fraboulet & Laetitia Guillemin co-présidentes à l’ANI (Association nationale des iconographes), nous présentent une nouvelle sélection de portfolios repérés cette année lors des lectures de portfolio organisées à Visa pour l’Image Perpignan. Ces sujets seront d’ailleurs proposés pour la 10ème édition du Prix ANI/PIXTRAKK pour remporter 5000€.

Frontière Sud
Jeoffrey Guillemard

Jeoffrey Guillemard suit les migrants qui souhaitent rejoindre les Etats-Unis. Ce reportage au long court a commencé à l’investiture du président des Etats Unis Donald Trump en 2017.

« La frontière des Etats-Unis commence au sud du Mexique ». C’est comme cela que les migrants Centre-Américains racontent leur voyage pour atteindre le rêve américain. Tout commence à la frontière du Mexique et du Guatemala sur des radeaux de fortune lancés sur le rio Suchiate. Ils doivent ensuite marcher pendant des jours entiers avant de s’aventurer sur « La Bestia » (La Bête), ce fameux train de marchandises qui traverse le pays. Seul ou en caravane, malgré la longueur du voyage et les nombreux dangers, des milliers de migrants du Honduras, du Salvador et du Guatemala empruntent chaque jour cette route pour fuir les gangs et la violence qui frappent leurs pays respectifs. Ils y perdent leur argent, leur dignité et parfois même la vie.

Why one of the poorest and most overpopulated countries worldwide has massively turned to the In Vitro Fertilization?

La photographe Daniela Sala a ramené un reportage étonnant réalisé à Gaza, où les couples font de plus appel à la médecine pour aider à la procréation, notamment grâce à la pratique Fécondation in vitro.

Suspended amidst hope and fear, tens of husbands and wives wait outside the OR in a clinic in Gaza City. Their ways of coping with fear are different: many pray, others keep walking back and forth. But they all have the same dream: getting a baby.
Long-term living conditions in Gaza are some of the worst in the Middle East. A report by the UN in 2015 noted that the economic well-being of Palestinians living in Gaza was worse than in 1995 and that it may be « uninhabitable » by 2020; last year the organisation said that conditions were already « unliveable ».
Gaza Strip 2 millions inhabitants are one of the youngest population in the world and have one of the highest number of children per family (4,5). Yet, In Vitro Fertilisation has been a business on the rise for the past decades. And it still is. Couple are ready to sell whatever they can, save money for years and even get into debt, while the enlarged families is usually willing to support them with any means in order to afford the treatment. The cost of the whole procedure in Gaza is around 2500 $: a sum that is considerably high. But giving birth is priceless.
Along the Strip, there are are at least 5 clinics (mostly in Gaza City) specialised in fertility treatments. The first one was founded by the doctor Baha Al Ghalayieni in 1997.As its founder, recalls, at the very beginning they contacted Muslim scholars in order to confirm that IVF is Halal, or permitted, in Islam (as long as it is performed by a married couple). The clinic currently assists an average of 15 patients a month.
An IVF treatment normally consists in hormonal treatments for the woman, followed by a first surgery, consisting in oocytes retrieval from the woman uterus. Oocytes will be then fertilised by the husband’s sperm. 3 to 5 days later the fertilised egg (embryo) will be implanted in the woman uterus.
Strong social and family pressure to have children, combined with increased male infertility rate – though not supported by scientific research – is thought to be pushing more and more couples to try IVF. And in the past years even a NGO, (Fata, funded by Jaleela Dahlan, wife of former Fatah leader Mohammad Dahlan) started offering free IVF treatment to poor Gaza families, allocating more than half of their budget for it.

18 mois avec les légionnaires du 2REP de CALVI AU MALI

Le photographe Jérémy Lempin a décidé en juin 2017 de suivre la Légion Etrangère, afin de découvrir qui étaient vraiment ces hommes, connaître leurs traditions, rencontrer leur famille et essayer de percer le mystère qui se cache derrière le mythique du 2ème Régiment Etranger de Parachutiste plus connu sous son acronyme du 2REP.

Dans l’armée française, la Légion Etrangère est un corps à part. Un des meilleurs au monde mais aussi un des plus dur. Composée d’engagés volontaires étrangers de 140 nationalités différentes, elle est régie par ses propres règles de tradition et animée d’un très fort esprit de cohésion.
Les hommes qui la composent sont donc difficiles à approcher en profondeur. Le 2ème Régiment Etranger de Parachutiste (REP) m’a pourtant permis de le faire en m’ouvrant ses portes pendant 18 mois.
Igor, 36 ans, brésilien, ancien Forces Spéciales dans son pays natal, a tout quitté pour rejoindre les paras de la Légion Etrangère sur l’île de beauté.
Tout comme les Népalais qui parcourent plus de 7000km et dépensent plus de 8000 euros pour venir se battre pour la France.
Je peux aussi vous parler, de Christian, roumain, Cristin, moldave, Pedro, portugais, et de tant d’autres. Tous viennent du monde entier pour réaliser leur rêve, intégrer le mythique 2ème REP.
De Calvi au Mali, des jeunes volontaires étrangers fraîchement engagés aux plus anciens du régiment, je tente de suivre et de comprendre le fil invisible du quotidien, qui conduit ces soldats à faire de l’île de Beauté leur Patrie, de Calvi leur capitale, du départ en Mission Opérationnelle leur raison d’être et du 2ème REP, leur éternelle famille.
Depuis sa création en 1948, ce régiment d’élite est envoyé sur tous les champs de bataille où sa dimension aéroportée le rend nécessaire. Il est installé depuis 50 ans à Calvi, en Corse, et fait désormais partie du paysage local.

Dans cette série, Susana Girón s’est intéressés aux compétitions sportives, un peu particulières… Puisqu’elles s’adressent aux vétérans, dont certains sont centenaires…

Every year, thousands of Master athletes take part on official competitions around the world, getting to be one of the most crowded sporting events in the world. In these competitions, the categories to compete change every 5 years so that they are more balanced. Thus, starting at the age of 35, categories are established up to sometimes reaching +100 years …
Like example, the 2018 World Masters Athletics saw more than 8200 athletes from 101 different nationalities take part in the official competitions. 25% of these athletes were older than 65 years old. The oldest ones, the Italian Giuseppe Ottaviani 102 years-old or the Indian woman Man Kaur 101 years-old, were the most extraordinary cases within a fascinating group of people that keep training and competing during the third age.
The great majority began training at the age of 40 or 50 looking for a healthy lifestyle. But now, beyond the marks or records, competition is also an opportunity for traveling, making friends, keeping the illusion for life and getting older in a healthy way.
They are just a group of elder people, that run quite fast, throw really far and jump incredibly high, but far from that they are an example for society, where values like effort, passion, determination or will not only belong to sport values but to human values too. Promoting what they do, on the one hand, will make people realize these inspiring activities, and on the second hand will give more value to elders in society, a group of age, that tend to be undervalued.
In addition to photographing these athletes in action, jumping or running, I invited them to posses for a staged portraits after taking part on the competitions and write in their own handwriting an advice that they would give to a young person.
