Partager Partager L'Interview À la conquête de l’Ouest : Entretien avec Monica Santos, scénographe et Jean-Christophe Béchet, photographe Pascal Therme11 février 2019 L’Espace Photographique du Leica Store Faubourg Saint-Honoré accueille l’exposition Eureka USA de Jean-Christophe Béchet jusqu’au 6 avril prochain. Il s’agit ici d’une sélection de photographies issues d’une trilogie sur l’Amérique. Le soir du vernissage, notre critique Pascal Therme a rencontré Monica Santos, celle qui a réalisé la scénographie d’une exposition qui se veut plus que réussie et le photographe Jean-Christophe Béchet. Tout au long de l’année, la petite galerie de la boutique Leica de Paris présente des expositions de photographes leicaistes. Aujourd’hui, c’est le travail sur l’Amérique de Jean-Christophe Béchet qui est mis à l’honneur par Gaelle Gouinguené, Responsable des projets culturels de Leica France. Ici, on découvre deux séries issues d’une collection d’ouvrages éditée par trans photographic press sous le titre « The American Trilogy » : « Petits paysages américains » et « Eureka USA ». J’avais envie de faire un livre animalier à ma façon – de faire un peu ce que j’appelle de la Street Photography animalière – c’est à dire de revisiter les animaux symboliques des USA comme le pygargue, l’aigle royal emblème du pays. Dans Eureka, USA, c’est un voyage qui revisite le parcours du Pony Express, la route la plus solitaires des Etats-Unis, je n’y ai vu que des partisans de Trump. De l’autre, nous découvrons un autre road trip, en couleur cette fois-ci reliant les deux villes du même nom « Eureka »; situées respectivement dans l’état du Nevada et de la Californie. Un voyage de 939 km… Deux séries pour un seul pays, mais avec deux traitements bien différents et contrastées.
